Pointes of Impact
As a leading dance institution, Armour Dance Theatre felt a responsibility to lead the community in its vision to ensure that the power of dance is accessible and provides a pathway to success for all youth in our community. This vision is brought to life through the obstacle-eliminating Pointes of Impact Programming, which encompasses numerous philanthropic programs, including after-school and summer camp Community Programs, Next Steps, Summer in NYC, and Beyond the Classroom.
Support This Programming
With your support, ADT can continue its mission to ensure that every child in our community has access to high-performing schools of choice and can expect to graduate from high school, followed by attending university, trade school, or pursuing a professional dance career, resulting in the ability to earn a meaningful wage.
After School Programs
Armour Dance Theatre’s Community Programs deliver free comprehensive after-school and summer camp programs in five neighborhoods across Miami-Dade County. Using a vibrant combination of the arts, academic instruction, and holistic strategies, Armour Dance Theatre helps propel students toward new choices and opportunities.
Next Steps
Eligible students ages 11 and above have access to advanced dance training at The Academy. The Next Step Program offers free or low-cost dance training, assistance in cross-county transportation, high-school magnet program auditions, and college application mentorship. Participating students also have access to the Summer in New York Program.
Summer In New York
Advanced high school and college students often dream of studying in a summer-intensive program with a professional dance company in New York. Such intensives offer access to the highest levels of training, networking opportunities, and an advantage when auditioning for professional companies or college programs.
Armour Dance Theatre makes this dream come true for over 20 students each year by providing room, board, and chaperones for up to eight weeks in New York City.
How Can Students Get Involved
Students must be currently enrolled at Armour Dance Theatre or attend New World School of the Arts high school or college. Students interested in participating in the program can contact the Artistic Director, Ruth Wiesen at Ruth@armourdance.org
Beyond The Classroom
Beyond the skills learned through dance, Armour Dance Theatre maximizes each child’s potential by identifying any obstacles to success and working to remove them. Through community partners, Armour Dance Theatre connects families to services that include:
- Health and dental services
- Mental health services
- Immigration services
- Legal services
- Housing opportunities
