Dance with Me (Ballet)
Ages 24-36 months: based on the work of Anne Green Gilbert called “Brain Dance”. This class is designed to give your 2-year-old creative play while laying the foundation for healthy brain development, sensory-motor development, and life-long learning. A parent, grandparent, or caregiver participates in the class with the child.

Creative Movement I – Pre-K3
The Armour Dance Theatre’s creative movement classes are specifically designed to meet the developmental needs of your 3-year-old. Your child will gain strength, flexibility, musicality, and social skills, all under the umbrella of play and imagination.

Elementary IV (Pre-Pointe) – 5th Grade – Ballet
Your child’s ballet education continues to build upon the foundation of the Elementary III work. Elm IV prepares the student for pointe work with a focus on alignment, strength, transitions and balance. A minimum of three times a week is required. Students will add ribbons to their ballet shoes this year.
Class time and frequency: Three times a week for 1.5 hours.

Intermediate I – 6th & 7th Grade – Ballet
Beginning Pointe work is added for the girls. Alignment, technique, conditioning continue to be the focus of each class. Students are required to attend 3 classes a week.
Class time and frequency: Three times a week for 1.5 hours. To help students maximize mastery of skills and growth, there is no charge for the fourth BALLET class.
Conditioning Class: This class is crucial to injury prevention and the student’s pointework, which focuses on key areas of strength.

Conditioning:Progressive Ballet Technique (PBT) is an innovative body-conditioning and strengthening program that is geared towards injury prevention. This program is designed to enhance students’ technique by focussing on training the muscle memory required in each exercise in all forms of dance. It is a unique training system using ballet-technique specific exercises to train skill acquisition in a graded and progressive manner from junior through to advanced levels. PBT focuses on core strength, weight placement and alignment of the body with carefully designed exercises and repetitions of these exercises that trigger their muscle memory. With the use of an exercise ball, the students gain a great sense of posture and weight-placement whilst feeling each correct muscle group working throughout each exercise, which then stays with them whilst performing.

Contemporary
The Horton Technique is a technique that emphasizes a whole body, anatomical approach to dance that includes flexibility, strength, coordination of the body and spatial awareness to enable unrestricted, dramatic freedom of expression. The technique includes 17 fortification studies that focuses on strengthening, fortifying, and stretching through a series of movements that attend to different parts of the body. Horton uses flat backs and lateral stretches, tilt lines and lunges, all movements. Horton technique also incorporates lyrical, circular movements focusing on stretching in opposite directions.
As this technique is ballet based, students must also be enrolled in ballet classes.

Flamenco
Flamenco is a song, music, and dance style strongly influenced by the Gitanos but with deeper roots in Moorish musical traditions. It originated in Andalusia (Spain).

Tap
Through the study of tap dancers learn to use their feet as a rhythm instrument. The footwork helps to develop agility, musicality, (including syncopation) and improv.

This class is geared towards students who have strong technique, and an understanding of tap musicality. This class further explores interpretation, and improvisation. Students will develop personal style and expression as they continue to grow as tap artists.

Dancers will learn basic tap skills and terminology. Fundamentals such as balance and general alignment are introduced at this level.

Dancers are taught to add sounds to the basic tap steps. Musicality is stressed while teaching the student to count their sounds between the beats to create more complex rhythms.

Broadway Jazz
Broadway Jazz is a unique blend of ballet, modern, and jazz. It is full of high energy and story-telling. While this class uses music and songs from Broadway, there is no singing requirement. However, most students cannot resist singing along!
As this technique is ballet-based, it is preferable that students also be enrolled in ballet classes.

Dance Clothing and Shoes:
- Clothing: Any color leotard with tights, leggings or jazz pants.
- Shoes: Jazz shoes.
- Hair: Pulled back in a ponytail or bun.

Hip Hop
Our Hip hop class is a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking. This high-energy class focuses on body awareness, coordination, grooves, and patterning. More advanced levels focus on adapting to many different styles, incorporating many different dynamics, and developing the dancers’ own voice and style. Classes will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual styles and personality to the movements.

Tuition is based on full-year enrollment and is divided into nine monthly installments, beginning in August (which covers both August and September). A $75 annual registration fee also applies. We do not issue monthly statements, so please keep track of your payment schedule. Make-up classes are available—just check with your child’s teacher for the best time.
